A drilling case study in polymer composites reinforced by virgin and recycled carbon fibres (CFRP and rCFRP) to analyse thrust force and torque

Abstract A great deal of attention is currently paid to recycling or reusing carbon fibres, as it improves sustainability and the lifetime products. The applicability recycled fibre–reinforced polymer (rCFRP) composite materials supported by results material scientists; however, machinability rCFRPs has not been analysed yet. virgin was compared analysing cutting force torque in drilling. Six different CFRPs (virgin with reinforcing structures) were drilled at three feed levels using two solid carbide tools. measured a KISTLER 9257BA dynamometer, processed, fast Fourier transformation (FFT) analysis variance (ANOVA). experimental proved significance level 0.05 that recycled/virgin status applied significantly influences both thrust drilling each CFRP. Furthermore, are higher than structure. present study suggests spreading rCFRP applications, there no essential barriers against them from point view torque.
